MONOPHOBIA: Written
for Accent UK's Phobias anthology, Monophobia is a 4-page
story about the fear of being alone. Taking the simple criteria
for the book (ie write a story about a phobia), I decided to turn
the idea on its head, and write what was effectively structured
as a double-bluff joke. |
JUDGE DREDD: DOPPELGANGER: Originally
created
for the Judge Dredd Fanzine "Class of '79", this strip was
not published due to the fanzine going under before the strip was
finished. However the artist, Boo Cook, sent the strip to 2000AD,
who liked it enough to give Boo some work. Several years later,
Boo is now a 2000AD regular and a fan-favourite. |
MUM'S BODY: This is the most directly personal piece I've produced. As the title suggests, it was produced about a month after my mother died, and was part of my coming to terms with the loss. At the time there was a competition running in the Observer for a one-page comic strip, so I decided to produce the strip for that. It didn't win of course - the competition was more of an excuse to produce the strip than anything - , but I understand it did fairly well. |
MARRAQUAI: James
McKay and myself created this story together in Fenchurch St Station
in 2003 - James effectively outlined a whole load of concepts
that he'd like to draw, and I put a story to his ideas, based on
the Romeo and Juliet "star-crossed lovers" archetype.
Presented here are the first 3 pages - the complete book runs to
16 pages. |
PURITY OR NOTHING: Written
for Accent UK's Monsters anthology, Purity or Nothing is
a story with a simple premise - the belief that monsters are defined
simply by what you and your culture believe to be abhorrent. Other
than that, it's largely a showcase for James McKay's artwork! |
FALLING SKY: My
first full-length graphic novel, Falling Sky chronicles the final
two days before a catastrophic asteroid impact, as seen from the
point of view of a loans company director and his erstwhile kidnapper. Click
here to read the comic. |
